For generations who served under Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, that connection carried even greater meaning. She was not simply the Sovereign to whom the oath was sworn, but a constant presence throughout decades of military service and, for many, a figure deeply respected not just as Commander-in-Chief, but as the people’s Queen.
This special commemorative edition brings together those words of service alongside one of our favourite black and white photographs of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II in her younger years, together with the dates of her remarkable reign, 1952 – 2022, and her official royal title, creating a tribute both to the oath itself and to the monarch to whom so many generations pledged their service.

Each Oath is individually handmade using the name and enlistment details you provide. Using crisp, clear print on specialist high-quality textured paper, we personalise every display with your chosen service details, making each piece completely unique to you or the recipient. This is finished with a badge, a gleaming hand-polished coin representing the Sovereign’s Shilling, and stable belt colours.
Each finished display measures 36cm x 37cm and is designed to be a lasting piece of military history and personal remembrance.
The Oath of Allegiance and the Sovereign’s Shilling

The Sovereign’s Shilling, often referred to historically as the King or Queen’s Shilling, dates back to recruitment practices used throughout the 18th and 19th centuries, although its origins stretch back even further to the end of the English Civil War. To take the shilling was to agree to serve as a sailor or soldier of the Crown, and the phrase remains part of military history today.
Using a genuine coin to represent the Sovereign’s Shilling, together with a faithful reproduction of the words spoken on enlistment, every Oath is handmade by ex-service personnel.
