59 Independent Commando Squadron Royal Engineers Poppy Memorial

This 59 Independent Commando Squadron Royal Engineers Poppy Memorial is a veteran-made tribute created to honour the skill, service and commando heritage of those who served with the Commando Sappers.

Featuring a striking commando dagger centrepiece approximately 20cm height, with the number 59 displayed at its base alongside a hand-painted red poppy, this memorial reflects the squadron’s distinctive identity and proud place within British military history.

Its personnel combined the specialist skills of the Royal Engineers with the demands of commando service, providing vital engineering support to 3 Commando Brigade Royal Marines.

Each piece is carefully 3D printed and hand-finished in the UK by veterans, with close attention paid to detail, balance and presentation. The black centrepiece and red poppy create a respectful tribute to the commitment and sacrifice of those who served.

Designed as a remembrance display, this piece is suitable for year-round tribute as well as occasions such as Remembrance Sunday, Armed Forces Day and personal moments of reflection. Whether chosen as a thoughtful gift for a 59 Independent Commando Squadron veteran, a family member or a collector of British military memorabilia, this memorial offers a meaningful way to honour service within the Commando Sappers.

About 59 Independent Commando Squadron Royal Engineers

59 Independent Commando Squadron Royal Engineers took its commando title on 1 April 1971, when 59 Field Squadron was redesignated in Singapore. The main body subsequently returned to the UK, establishing its home in Plymouth.

The squadron provided combat engineering support to 3 Commando Brigade Royal Marines, combining Royal Engineers expertise with commando training. Its work helped the brigade move, operate and sustain itself through tasks such as bridging, route improvement, demolitions and the construction of field defences.

In 2008, 59 became part of the newly formed 24 Commando Engineer Regiment, continuing its proud heritage as 59 Commando Squadron.

This memorial pays tribute to those who served under the 59 Independent Commando Squadron title and honours their contribution, commitment and sacrifice.
